In Class Responses

Paul Pots

It seems as though Paul's performance can go one of two ways at this point: horribly or amazing. He seems a little goofy, but.... amazing. The way he spoke about his confidence was as he knew he had something, but had a hard time expressing it. Truly a very impressive performance.

Gun Painting

The sheer size of the painting makes a statement. A gun is a very powerful object, and this painting depicts this by enlarging one. The colors of the painting also use some of the things that are associated with guns. For instance, the color red is the color of blood. The red does a good job of highlighting the gun physically and metaphorically.

Star Trek Movie Trailer

If the movie is as good as the trailer, Star Trek should pick up a whole new following of fans. It looks fast-paced and action-filled, and that seems to be the kind of movie that is doing well these days. Who'da thunk it... Star Trek and good in the same thought.

Spring Break's Best Day

My break was full of work, but I had St. Patty's day off and I definately took advantage. The day started with 36 of some of my favorite holes in Frisbee Golg, Lester Lorch. As a cherry on top, my team won. Immediately after, my buddies and I got ready for a party that a band of my friend's had their first show at. They did a really good job, but I was more focussed on the new girl that I met.

Question of My Curiousity

What do people really think about me?

Is there truly a correct religion, and if so, which one is it?

Why would someone who supposedly created and loves everyone not expose a certain person to a certain religion if it were the correct one, and does that mean that this person will be condemned for it?

Why does democracy usually fail?

Can people really not be trusted with their own futures?

I wonder how hard it will be to enter a career when I am done with school?

In an effort to learn the answers to the above questions, I should read. I believe that would be my best choice. As for the first question, I think that asking people may be the best way to find that out, but I think that it would be sort of awkward if I just straight up asked someone what they think about me.

The Interview

I would like to find out about the differences in responsibilities and opinions from a server at a restaurant to a host. To do this, I am going to interview one of the hosts of El Chico in Flower Mound, then one of the servers.

Sections:

- Table Rotation
  1. Does El Chico use a rotation?
  2. Do you like the table rotation? (why/why not)
  3. Does it make your job easier? (why/why not)
- Customer dealings in high volume
  1. How do you deal with a impatient customer?
  2. Is it easy to keep your cool?
- Easy to get along?

I never fall behind in the entertainment news. I am not really into the life of the stars, but if there is a new album or movie that is supposed to come out soon I always know about it. Sports are another part of the news that I follow religiously, but not every sport. Football and basketball are my main focuses when it comes the sports world, but I find out about others by watching ESPN. It is not voluntary, but in between football and basketball there is a lot of space to fill and I sometimes keep the T.V. on ESPN. As for where I get my video and music news, I find out about upcoming movies through previews and IMDB.com, and for albums I use the Zune Marketplace which is Microsoft's equivalent to Apple's Itunes.

Mash ed Poetatoes!

Oh the variety!
I feel pretty safe saying that mashed potatoes are my favorite food, because they can be cooked in ways that match my any of my moods. I love each and every kind, but it depends on how I feel at the moment.
First of all, it might help to know that I am a texture eater. That being said, I like it when the potatoes are not fully mashed. Leaving small remnances of their origin for me to love and appreciate.
The fact that mashed potatoes are a side dish is Amazing! When I cook dinner, I always add them to the menu. For instance, steak and garlic mashed potatoes, or chicken.. and mashed potatoes. The list is endless.

My Paper

Maybe i should have spent a little more time on the big picture of Precision Time shutting down, instead of that specific day.

Writer's Break Pg. 126 & 134

- Getting kicked out of cheerleading
- Going on a road trip with friends
- Sebastian, my best friend in 2nd grade graduated valedictorian

I dragged through highschool while Sebastian ended up being at the top of our class after we had been seperated since 2nd grade. The way he grew up put him in a much better academic situation than me, but my experiences gave me a better set of social and networking skills. The way a person grows up has a lot to do with their strengths and weaknesses.

Writer's brief One

An Unlikely Hero: My Baby Brother

Stephen, my two year old brother, was not someone I expected to turn to when I was lost, and yet I find myself doing so more often with each passing day. He has been helping me out from the first day he entered my life. Since then, the idea of being a bad influence on such an innocent soul has scared me into making sensible decisions despite how miniscule they seem. The pressure to be a good influence that Stephen has put on me has made a potential man out of a seemingly adolescent boy, and for that, I consider him to be my personal hero.

Stephen’s first piece of guidance was given to me on the day we met, when our eyes connected for the first time, and it immediately had a dramatic effect on the way that I lived my life. Up until that point, I was usually in an altered state of mind, but as I looked into my new born baby brother’s eyes, I realized that I needed to have a clear head at all times in order to be an adequate role model for Stephen. When I left the hospital that day I knew I was different coming out than I was going in, but I had no idea how much Stephen had changed me. He was born on April 17th of 2007, and since that day I have been completely sober, aside from the occasional get together on the weekends. Now, as I look at my baby brother, I worry about his future, and that pushes me to give him a good example of what success really means. I accredit my getting back into school, regardless of my past failures, to the feeling of responsiblity that Stpehen has given me. Ever since I have realized how good he is for me, I make a point to sit down with him every day and thank him for what he has done so far and ask myself what I should do next in order to better my life along with Stephen’s more importantly.

Without Stephen knowing, he has become the most important positive influence in my life. Basically keeping me from a lifetime of bad decisions, and only a hero could save someone from their own mistakes. Stephen is not capable of answering any of my questions directly, but the thought of impacting his future helps clear my mind and helps guide me to the more logical choices in life.

The fact that K’Naan came from a non-English speaking area and learn not only the basics of the language, but the slang that is used in hip hop is impressive. As a HUGE hip hop fan, I was awed at his ability to put together “street” lyrics the way he did despite the handicap he started with. I was born here in America and I make attempts at writing hip hop lyrics, but fall short of K’Naan’s level by leaps and bounds. One thing that I am sure of is that the man has gained a new fan.

Writer's Break p. 21

Transportation, to me, has become an absolute necessary part of my life, From commuting to school and work to making my way home at the end of each day. I need my car to complete all of these tasks. Without a way to get around I would be in a completely different life situation. Finding a source of income and means of education would prove to be difficult, considering the limited distance I would be able to travel in a day. Keeping all of this in mind, I appreciate the way my car has impacted my life, because I am in Denton getting an education rather than sitting at home reading books in order to educate myself.
